BIAŁOWIEŻA - THE LAST PRIMEVAL FOREST IN EUROPE

Deep in the heart of Białowieża Forest many forgotten secrets and ancient sounds await your calling. In this kingdom, the European Bison reigns. Białowieża hosts many interesting bird species that can be observed over spring and summer e.g. Collared and Red Breasted Flycatcher, Pygmy Owl and woodpeckers. Autumn surely belongs to red deer. Its intensive roaring travels through the backwoods and can be heard on those brisk and foggy mornings. Gigantic old oaks demonstrating their strength and decaying fallen trunks absolutely will inspire you. In order to preserve the natural values of this region, the oldest in Poland and UNESCO site, the Białowieża National Park was established here in 1947. The Park area covers up to 10 500 ha. There are about 250 bird species recorded in the Park. Among them, there are 14 birds of prey, 8 owls, and 8 woodpeckers including White Backed and Middle Spotted as well as Three Toad Woodpeckers. The Park holds the largest population of European Bison which amounts up to 450 individuals. Other rare species such as wolf and lynx can be find here too.
